Video of George Floyd’s Daughter Played at Chauvin Sentencing

Gianna Floyd, 7, said in the video that she missed her father and wished she could play with him again. Derek Chauvin was sentenced on Friday to 22 and a half years in prison for George Floyd’s murder.

We will start with the 7-year-old daughter of a George Floyd, Gianna Floyd, who will present hers by video. How do you hope that the world remembers him? Well, they help him because those mean people did something to him. Yeah, if you could say anything to your daddy right now, what would it be? It will be I miss you and I love you. And when you see your daddy again, one day, what do you want to do when you see him? I want to play with him. What kind of games do you want to play with him? I want to play with him. Have fun. Go on a plane ride and that’s it. We used to have dinner every single night before we went to bed. My daddy always used to help me brush my teeth. Do you wish that he was still here with us? Yeah, but he is. Through his spirit. Yes.

Gianna Floyd, the 7-year-old daughter of George Floyd, said in a video played in court on Friday that she missed her father and that she wished she could play with him.

“I ask about him all the time,” Gianna said in the video, which was played at the sentencing hearing for Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who was convicted of murdering her father.

“I want to play with him, have fun, go on a plane ride,” she said in the video. As the video played, Mr. Chauvin appeared to watch from inside the courtroom.

“We used to have dinner every single night before we went to bed,” Gianna said. “My daddy always used to help me brush my teeth.”

In the video, which was played by prosecutors as one of several victim impact statements, a woman off-camera asked if Gianna wished that her father was still alive.

“Yeah, but he is,” Gianna said. “Through his spirit?” the woman asked. “Yes,” Gianna replied.
